Gujarat would cross the figure of 50% urbanized population by the year 2011 itself against the earlier projection of 2015.

It is the intention of State Government not only to capture the vibrancy of Urban Infrastructure investment but also to nurture and sustain such investments by making Gujarat cities embark on a path of inclusive development through reforms and partnerships.

The mission objectives of JnNURM only substantiate the outstanding success of Gujarat Government has received during the year long Urban 2005 initiative of focusing urban development as a central theme of good governance.

To cater to the growing needs of the urbanization, Gujarat Government has increased the budgetary allocation by almost 2.5 times since the year 2005. The success of Gujarat in getting approvals of JnNURM projects worth more than Rs. 4000 crores has received national attention.

While infrastructure needs of our urban demands urgent attention, it is equally important for us to change the attitude of the urban managers and the citizens by focusing on the imperative need of preserving clean land, clean water and clean air with the active participation  of the citizens. We have launched a very ambitious “Nirmal Gujarat Mission” covering every nook and an expenditure center, we in Gujarat have proved that waste can be turned out into wealth by controlling carbon emissions through scientific treatment and disposal of the waste and earn valuable dollars by earning and trading carbon credits in the international market.
